If we are not our thoughts, what are we? Who are we?
Thomas Keating once said that the false self doesn’t drop dead on demand. So it is with thoughts – they don’t just quiet down or disappear because we want or demand them to. In fact, the more effort we give to “getting rid of”, the more stubbornly they seem to hold on, making us wonder at times if we will ever enter a true practice.
In reality, we’re already there. Perhaps our misconceptions or lack of understanding about the role and biology of thought interfere with one’s really coming to understand and know this truth.
This offering will explore old and new dimensions about the origins of our thoughts (those often pesky distractions to Centering Prayer), how they can give rise to afflictive emotions, and how essential they are to developing our contemplative practices, including Centering Prayer; to deepen the work of letting go and surrender; and to heal from the programs of the false self.
Whether you are new to Centering Prayer or a seasoned practitioner, please join us for this gathering that will include two periods of Centering as well as presentation and reflection designed to deepen and enrich your spiritual life, essential to one’s well-being in living through difficult times.
