TOPIC

Come away for a special weekend to explore the seven mansions of Teresa of Avila’s Interior Castle. Teresa is one of Christianity’s great mystics and teachers (1515-1582). The Interior Castle was her final work and one of the greatest literacy works on experiential mysticism and contemplation in Christianity.

Prayer stood at the center of Teresa’s teaching, and she embraced prayer as a means of relationship with God. She considered a life of prayer in terms of love. Together we will explore the contemporary journey in light of Teresa’s timeless insights into the human soul and its journey towards God.

SPEAKER

Susan Komis is a member of the Faculty of Contemplative Outreach. Susan serves as Director of Chapter Resources and Communications to support coordinators   throughout the Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. network. She has served as a staff person for numerous Contemplative Outreach retreats, currently serving as a

mentor for other servant-leaders and continues to develop leadership formation programs. She is a Pastoral Minister and has been active in Spiritual Direction and Interfaith Dialogue.  Susan lives in St. Louis, Missouri. She is married, the mother of four daughters, and grandmother of six. 

BASIC INFORMATION

The workshop starts Friday, May 1, 2009, at 7 PM and concludes at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Covenant Christian Church in Urbandale, Iowa.

On Friday, doors will open at 6:30 PM for registration; the program will start at 7PM and conclude at 8:30PM.  On Saturday, doors will open at 8:30 AM for registration and the program will run from 9 AM-3:00 PM. 

Light refreshments and lunch will be provided throughout the conference.

Cost: $45 - cash or check only. No credit cards.

Directions to Covenant:  Take I-235 into Des Moines.  Take exit 3-73rd/8th Street) and go north on 73^rd Street.  73^rd becomes 72^nd Street just north of Hickman.  The church is at 2700-72^nd St.
