a journey in prayer and scripture

a journey in prayer and scripture

last Thursday of each month

6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

You are invited to come journey together in prayer and scripture on the last Thursday of each month at Covenant Christan Church.  The experience of “praying the scriptures” is an ancient practice that has been bringing people closer to God for centuries.  Also known as “Lectio Divina,” this practice involves four stages:

            Read

            Reflect

            Respond

            Rest

Listening to the word of God in Scripture is a traditional way of cultivating friendship with Christ.  It is a way of listening to the texts of Scripture as if we were in conversation with Christ and He were suggesting the topics of conversation.  The regular encounter with Christ and reflection on His word leads beyond mere acquaintanceship to an attitude of friendship, trust, and love.  Conversation simplifies and gives way to communing.

This is a rewarding discipline to be experienced in a group.  Please join us and experience both prayer and scripture on a deep level.

The Bible is not intended only to tell us about God but to transform us according to the form of Christ.

Those who have progressed in Lectio Divina experience the need for fewer words and more of the Word.

Those who have been transformed by the Word can read it in the events of each day, and in those signs of the times that are voices of God manifested through the deepest human aspirations.

Those who have revealed truth engraved in the innermost depth of their hearts do not depend on the Sacred Text and are for others a living Bible.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.

(Colossians 3:16)

Lectio Divina.

Lectio Divina  is a way of listening to scripture. Faithful listening deepens our faith and brings us to a contemplative understanding and approach to the Word of God and to life’s events. Lectio divina is one of the ways we receive nourishment in Christ, the bread of  life. We are fed by the bread and wine of the Word.

Come here and listen to me! I’ll pour out the spirit of wisdom upon you and make you wise.

(Proverbs 1:23)
